Creation of a gate and wicket door

A main gate and a side gate can add an aesthetic touch to your property whilst improving its security and functionality. In this article, we’ll look at the steps involved in building and installing a main gate and a side gate.

Preparation

Before you start building a gate and a side gate, you need to take precise measurements to determine the required size. You’ll also need to decide on the materials you wish to use for the construction. Gates and side gates can be made from wood, metal, PVC or aluminium. Make sure you choose a material that is suitable for your climate and the level of maintenance you’re prepared to carry out.

Design

Once you have decided on the dimensions and material for your main gate and side gate, you can start designing their appearance. You can create decorative motifs, arches, slats and wrought-iron designs to personalise your main gate and side gate.

Manufacture

Your main gate and side gate must be fitted by a professional.

Installation

1 - Mark the position of each pillar to which your components will be attached.

2 - Drilling the holes for the posts.

3 - Install the posts, using cement or concrete to secure them in place.

4 - Fitting the hinges for your units to the pillars.

5 - Attaching the main gate and the side gate to their hinges and adjusting them so that they are level and open and close properly.

6 - Fitting the lock, handles and any other necessary fittings to your main gate and side gate.
